Acronym for: local interconnect network. This is a slow, single wire network, used for communicating with sensors & actuators. It is designed to be a very low cost alternative to CAN class A. Unlike CAN, a LINbus network designates one node as the master & all other connected nodes act as slaves. The master unit initiates all communication, so collision arbitration is not required. Many modern alternators include a LINbus connection into the engine management system.
